Hands-On CREF Workshops

CREF workshops complement PowerPoint presentations, reinforcing concepts and helping participants improve knowledge, skills, and confidence — all in a safe and supportive learning environment. Registered CREF attendees may attend one or more of the following hands-on CREF workshops at no extra cost:

  1. Autotransfusion Simulation
  2. ECLS and ECMO
  3. ECMO and CPB Simulation
  4. Electronic Medical Records
  5. Financial Planning

The cost to attend each CREF workshop is included in the conference registration fee. Some workshops require pre-registration for limited openings, which are offered first come, first served. View details below, and contact us to learn how to sign up for the workshop(s) you would like to attend.

Note that workshop participants must be registered for the conference, and guest registrants are not eligible to participate. CEU credits, but not CME hours, are offered for all CREF workshops.

1. Medtronic Hands-On Autotransfusion Simulation Workshop

The Medtronic Hands-On Autotransfusion Simulation Workshop features individualized sessions with Medtronic clinical specialists to evaluate techniques in autotransfusion for surgical and trauma situations.

This CREF workshop features computer simulation and hands-on hardware to try techniques such as tandem reservoir configurations and handling relative contraindications. Several simulation scenarios will be available, along with information on dynamic cell-salvage technology.

The Medtronic Autotransfusion Simulation Workshop will be held throughout the conference. Space is limited. Contact us to learn how to sign up for this hands-on CREF workshop.

2. Hands-On ECLS / ECMO Workshop

The Hands-On ECLS Workshop will be held Thursday, September 28, 8:00 - 12:00. Designed for clinicians who provide care for patients with pulmonary and / or circulatory failure, this workshop will offer practical training in ECLS circuit management. Topics will include initiation of support, controls, troubleshooting, cannulation, and other essential skills.

Educational content will address all levels of experience, beginner to advanced. The workshop format will include informative lectures and hands-on instruction, customized to each participant’s experience and skill level. Lunch will be provided by the Getinge Group.

This workshop is full, and only preregistered attendees will be admitted.

3. Biomed Simulation Hands-On ECMO or CPB Simulation

The Biomed Simulation Hands-On ECMO or CPB Simulation Workshop will be offered for either ABCP Case Credit for Secondary Clinical Perfusion Activities (SCPA) or ABCP CEUs. Time slots will be available on Thursday and Friday, September 28 and 29, 2017. Contact us to learn how to sign up for one of the available spots.

Each High-Fidelity Perfusion Simulation (HFPS) session will include the following:

  • The session will focus on VV ECMO, VA ECMO, or CPB.
  • Only one participant per session. However, if participants would like to invite one colleague to share the simulation experience, they may. Only one person may claim SCPA credit for each session.
  • Biomed Simulation will provide written verification for each primary participant.

Biomed Simulation, Inc. is an ABCP recognized Simulation Center. To learn more about HFPS requirements, view the ABCP Policy for High-Fidelity Perfusion Simulation (HFPS).

4. Hands-On Electronic Medical Records Workshop

The Hands-On Electronic Medical Records Workshop was designed to offer CREF attendees a comprehensive educational experience, featuring informative presentations, open discussion, and hands-on exploration of available technology. It will be held Friday, September 29, 3:30 - 6:00 p.m.
The workshop format includes three EMR presentations and three company overviews of available EMR devices:

The workshop will conclude with discussion and hands-on interaction with the technology on display. View the CREF program for additional details about this workshop. Registration is not required for this CREF workshop.

5. Financial Planning Workshop

No more excuses for putting off planning for a healthy financial future: college savings, retirement, and more. Hear sage advice from Bryan Stebel, an experienced Certified Financial Planner, and work individually with assistants to create a draft plan to take home when you leave.
The workshop will take place Sunday, October 1, 11:00 - 1:00. The format will include lecture and one-on-one interaction.
