The LivaNova Hands-On ECLS Workshop will be held Friday, September 7, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Attend this CREF workshop to learn about the latest technology and techniques in emergent ECLS. At the close of this workshop, participants will have:

  • Gained unique insight into the dynamic new ECLS environments of use
  • Increased their knowledge on ECLS cannulation techniques and strategies
  • Experienced hands-on rapid deployment of new devices

ECLS continues to grow as a means of supporting critically ill respiratory and cardiac patients. In order to improve outcomes and patient care, industry and healthcare professionals must work together to move ECLS forward. Expert panelists Dr. Jay K. Bhama and Dr. Zack Shinar will share their unique insights in ECLS technologies and techniques.

Workshop Agenda:

3:30 – 4:00 | Trends & Changes in Cardiac Resuscitation, the Emergence of eCPR | Zack Shinar, MD | Department of Emergency Medicine | Sharp Memorial Hospital
Opening discussion: Resuscitation today, where we’ve been, where we need to go any relevant science, the future of eCPR

4:00 – 4:30 | ECLS Cannulation Techniques and Strategies | Jay K. Bhama, MD | Surgical Director, Cardiac Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support | University of Iowa
Clinical discussion reviewing VA and VV Cannulation strategies, tips, tricks, and watch outs.

4:30 – 4:45 | Ask the Experts | Zack Shinar, MD & Jay K. Bhama, MD
Provide the audience time to ask Dr. Shinar and Dr. Bhama questions related to eCPR or ECLS strategy

4:45 – 5:00 | Hands-On Experience | LivaNova Team

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

1. Simple One-Button Syringe Pump to Deliver Microplegia

Sponsored by CAPS
SIERRA A / SECOND FLOOR
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.

The CAPS Simple One-Button Syringe Pump to Deliver Microplegia Workshop is offered Saturday, September 8, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. CAPS B Braun, a leader in providing cardioplegia solutions realized there was an unmet need for a simple one button system for delivering potassium and a myriad of additives to deliver true microplegia without bulky machinery, costly disposables or lack of battery back-up.

During this presentation, you will learn the simplicity of set-up and delivery of micro-titrations of potassium and additives with the patient’s own blood to create microplegia. You will also discover the remarkably small footprint, battery back-up capability and extreme ease of changing either syringe or syringe pump, even during delivery.

In this ever present cost-conscience environment of hospital accountability, the B Braun Perfusor Syringe Pump will allow the perfusionist to deliver true microplegia economically for both hospital and patient.

2. Intraperitoneal and Intrathoracic Hyperthermia Workshop

SIERRA B / SECOND FLOOR
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Sponsored by Eight Medical

The Eight Medical Intraperitoneal and Intrathoracic Hyperthermia Workshop will be offered Saturday, September 8, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Eight Medical Recirculator 8.0 efficiently and reliably directs a heated sterile solution through the lower abdomen or thoracic cavity for intraperitoneal or intrathoracic hyperthermia. Intraperitoneal Hyperthermia is a very promising treatment for patients with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis (PC) which arises from primary tumours in the abdominal and thoracic cavity.

This CREF workshop will give the perfusionist more opportunity and experience with hyperthermia by allowing them a hands-on opportunity to perfuse the abdominal cavity using the Eight Medical Recirculator 8.0. They will be able to experiment with flow rates, clamping, and volume of perfusate, as well as learn how to insert tubing for the laparoscopic technique.
